Fixing mistakes

Correct a signed entry, an imported entry or your own hours data without breaking the record.

Yolog’s core promise is that a signed entry never changes. Once a mechanic signs, the entry is sealed into the logbook’s chain, and neither the owner nor the mechanic can edit or delete it. Any change made behind the scenes would break the seal and show up when the record is verified. That’s what makes the record trustworthy to a buyer, an insurer or the FAA.

So a mistake isn’t erased. It’s corrected by adding a new entry that sets the record straight, and both stay in the logbook.

A mistake in a signed entry

Say the tach time was mistyped, or the description left out a part number. Here’s how to fix it.

  1. Note the original entry. Open it in the logbook and write down its entry number (shown as Entry # followed by five digits) and its date.
  2. Request a new signed entry. The owner or a co-owner issues a new signing link to the mechanic, usually the one who signed the original. See Request a signed entry. Put it in the same logbook as the original.
  3. The mechanic signs a correcting entry. In Description of work performed, they state plainly that this entry corrects an earlier one, name it by entry number and date, and give the correct information. For example: “Corrects entry #00042 dated 12 Mar 2026: tach time should read 2847.3, not 2874.3.”

The original entry stays exactly as it was. The new entry sits after it in the chain, signed and locked like any other.

Be aware: Yolog has a “Correction” entry type, but today neither the owner’s request form nor the mechanic’s signing page offers it, so a correcting entry is signed as one of the usual types (usually Maintenance). Yolog also doesn’t yet show a link from a correcting entry back to the entry it corrects. That’s why the description has to name the original by number and date: it’s the only connection between the two.

Only a mechanic can sign a correction to a mechanic’s entry. If the mistake is in the work itself, not just the paperwork, that’s a conversation with your mechanic first.

How this compares to paper

On paper, a mistake is commonly handled by drawing a single line through the wrong text, leaving it readable, and initialing and dating the change. Yolog can’t strike through a sealed entry, so the correcting entry plays that role: the original stays readable and the fix is signed and dated. Ask your mechanic or IA if you’re unsure what a particular correction needs to say.

A mistake in an imported paper entry

Entries read from your scanned paper logbooks work differently, because you review them before they enter the chain. See Review and apply.

  • Before you apply: fix anything that’s wrong in Review & correct entries, checking each field against the scan on the left. Saving marks the page approved, but nothing enters the chain until you choose Apply on the import overview. Until then, you can reopen an approved page from Reviewed pages with Review and fix it.
  • After you apply: imported entries are locked into the chain, marked as imported from scan, the same as signed entries. They can’t be edited or deleted.

If you find an error in an applied entry, first check it against the scan, which stays attached to the entry. If the paper itself was right and the reading was wrong, the scan shows the true record. If the paper logbook itself had the error, treat it like any other record question and talk to your mechanic.

Mistakes in your own data

Some things in Yolog aren’t signed records. They’re working data you keep up to date yourself, so they can be changed.

Signing links that haven’t been used yet can be canceled at any time. Canceling never affects an entry that’s already signed.
