FAQ

Plain answers to the real questions.

No marketing-speak. If a question isn't here, the contact form goes straight to a founder.

For owners
Is this FAA-compliant?

Yolog is built around AC 120-78B (electronic recordkeeping) and entries are written to satisfy 14 CFR §43.9 and §43.11 content requirements. The signed mechanic attestation includes the language §43.9 requires. We don't claim to replace your A&P/IA's professional judgment — they're still the ones signing.

What if I cancel? Do I lose my logbook?

No. After cancellation your data is preserved for at least 90 days in a fully restorable state — you can export the entire history as PDF and CSV at any point during that window. After 90 days we move it to cold storage for another 18 months, then delete. Active subscribers retain everything indefinitely.

What happens if Yolog shuts down?

Our Terms of Service contain a 180-day sunset clause: if we cease operations, you get at least 180 days' notice and a full data export, including a verifiable archive of the hash chain. This is the single most important commitment in the contract — it's why the cryptographic chain matters even if we disappear.

Who can see my logbook?

You. Co-owners or partners you explicitly invite. Mechanics see only the aircraft details and prior-entry context they need to sign the entry you sent them — never the full history. We don't sell or share data with third parties.

Can I import my paper logbook history?

Yes. Onboarding offers three paths: type each historical entry by hand, upload scanned pages and let the OCR import flow extract them (you confirm before signing), or skip it and start the chain from your next entry. Imported entries are flagged as historical — they don't claim a mechanic signed them on Yolog, just that they exist in your prior records.

What if my mechanic refuses to use the link?

It happens. The link is the fastest path, but you can also fall back to a paper entry and use the OCR scan-import to bring it in afterward. Imported entries are marked as historical and don't form part of the signed Yolog chain.

For mechanics
Do I need to make an account?

No. The owner sends you a single-use link. You open it, draft the entry, enter your A&P or IA cert number, sign. Done. The link expires in 48 hours and only works for the one aircraft and entry type the owner specified.

What if I make a typo or sign the wrong entry?

Signed entries can't be edited — that's the whole point. Corrections are new entries that explicitly reference the original, mirroring the FAA-accepted "draw a line through, initial, date, and write the correction" practice. The owner sends you a follow-up correction link.

Does the owner see my private notes?

There's a single text body for the entry — what you type is what gets signed and shown to the owner. There's no separate "private mechanic notes" field, by design: anything attached to a signed entry is part of the legal record.

Why do you validate my cert number against the FAA registry?

Two reasons. First, it protects you — nobody can sign in your name without a matching cert and certificate type on file with the Airmen Registry. Second, it's the cheapest way to give buyers and FSDOs durable confidence that the chain wasn't signed by a fictitious mechanic.

Pricing & subscription
Can I pay annually?

Yes — annual saves roughly 17% over monthly. You can switch in either direction from the billing settings; we prorate.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. No call to retain you, no trick. Cancel from billing settings; the subscription runs to the end of the period and then stops billing. Your records remain restorable for 90 days afterward.

What about flying clubs or partnerships with multiple aircraft?

Each aircraft is its own subscription. For clubs or partnerships with several aircraft, get in touch through the contact form and we'll work out a multi-aircraft rate.
